An Update of Schistosoma mekongi and Opisthorchiasis situation in Lao PDR

Lao PDR has 5.6 million people with 3 major ethnic groups. Helminth control activities include 10 yr control of schistosomiasis and opisthorchiasis 1989-1999; nationwide survey on helminth infections 2000-2002; opisthorchiasis control programme 2002-2004 and natiowide deworming 2005-2009.

For the 10-year control of schistosomiasis, the first 6 years of the program were supported by the WHO while the last 4 years by German Pharma Health Fund
